John Laurinaitis as WWE'S Head of Talent Relations
What did you think of John Laurinaitis as WWE's Head of Talent Relations? During his tenure, he mainly hired former bodybuilders and football players for the men and former swimsuit models for the women while rarely hiring indie wrestlers (CM Punk and Daniel Bryan were notable exceptions to the rule). With that being said, would the likes of Sasha Banks, Asuka and Bayley would not be in the WWE right now with Laurinaitis at the helm due to the understated beauty?
Are Alexa and Nia's antics counterproductive?
The Twitter feud is well-documented, so I needn't explain that further, but...
Adding those exchanges along with these kind of segments, which openly mock the PR WWE is having them doing on other outlets...
(I know the TD one isn't ****in kayfabe**** but the previous segment with Alexa is already questionable enough given her alleged real-life views) It seems like the narrative and energies are not lining up here. What's the tea? Are these girls dumb or fake? Or both? Why would you not openly object to this kind of thing if it's so diverged from your real (or corporate) views? It's not like they don't have value/power given their respective pushes
Who should (hypothetically) main event WrestleMania 35 vs. Ronda Rousey?
Last week, I posed the question-- who was WWE's poster girl? I did so to parlay into this larger discussion, about the hypothetical (and probable?) scenario in which a headlining match for a WrestleMania would feature Ronda Rousey competing for either of WWE's women's championships.
With this clearly being a game-changing step in a long (long) march towards something beyond a 'revolution' and more representative of finite equality fiscally and creatively between the WWE's women's division and its male counterpart, Ronda Rousey needs an apt dance partner. Someone who can complete an iconic match-up that would rival the likes of Hogan vs. Rock, Stone Cold vs. HBK and The Rock vs. John Cena. A woman who will carry the WWE's flag on her back as she goes in to potentially defend or take back the crown jewel of her respective women's division.
So, the question is: who?
Base your criteria of off:
PR Savvy - Is she capable of marketing the match and herself as the character to beat Ronda Rousey, let alone in the main of WrestleMania?
Visibility and Previous Relevance - What has she done lately? Is it realistic that she would be able to not only be primed, but accepted in the eyes of the fans as someone who's going to hold this distinct honor that the legendary females of the past couldn't have dreamed of doing in their prime?
Accomplishments and Legitimacy - What does she bring to the table in the tale of the tape comparison? Will she be marketed as an underdog or as a major foil? Is her past history in the WWE sustainable enough to hold on to Ronda's massive, industry shifting success in the UFC that will largely be factored into the promotion of the match?
End Game - Ronda is already a mainstream star athlete, so what is the end game of this person being her opponent in the main event of WrestleMania? Is she the star WWE wants to shine bright even after Ronda has moved on from wrestling?
