Should Tamina hang up her boots this year?

Tamina has been around for nearly a decade and hasn't improved as a wrestler, or evolved much as a character. Other than that 2012-2013 singles push (which was her peak, in my opinion), she has always been paired with someone who is either relative, or someone needing a bodyguard. She is always the side character but never the main character. Age and injuries are also catching up with her and she quickly gets exhausted in matches which are more than five minutes. With no singles title push happening in the future, and with newer and more talented girls being called up to an increasingly physically competitive division, is it time for Tamina to hang up her boots?

Agree. After that, she regressed and never recovered, both ring-wise and character-wise. She's never been the best but she deserved at least one transitional title reign. As for her retiring, I don't mind her having her on the roster as long as she can hang. At this point she's still useful to put over other girls

Ronda tossing her around the ring on RAW this past week, and sis clearly was struggling to keep up. She seems like she would be an excellent producer of matches since she did have a hand in last years women's Royal Rumble.

I think part of her problem is the frequency of her injuries in conjunction with her age. She is 40, and that’s not an excuse, but it has seemed to affect her ability to come back from her injuries with the same stamina and energy. She’s not a key player in the division diverting attention and opportunities away from other people though, so I don’t really think she needs to retire unless she’s ready to. She does still deliver when she needs to and the other women seem to have a lot of respect for her, so I don’t see why she needs to, though it wouldn’t stun me.

Mom doesn't age

I feel as long as the passion is there and as long as she can keep going and doesn't mind, why not? I don't think she's stubborn enough to go past what she thinks she can handle, being that she's a mother. I'm sure she'd be responsible about it.

I'd like to see her and Nia have a tag title reign (just not the first winners of it) but after that she can retire.

:skull:

Anyway i always thought she should've gotten a cute little reign with the Diva's title when she was feuding with Beth.

Sis has too many injuries and can't keep up anymore. I think they should give her an ambassador role so she can pay for her kids to go to college and let her hang it up.

Lmfaoooo ya'll have this same discussion each year and yet here she is, continuing to collect checks :skull: Some of you girls in this thread live in glass houses when it comes to your faves, and shouldn't be throwing stones at mine!

She’s done a whole lot of nothing for nearly a decade. Alicia and Nattie have at least won titles.

All three can go tho.

She should've hung them up 5 years ago tbh. She's just not that talented. Being the child of a wrestler doesn't make a good wrestler/entertainer.

Sis you truly aren’t that special for anyone to be obsessed with you so let’s not. You have literally made 3 topics in the last 2 days involving mess. Your write up is basically flame bait if we want to get technical. Anyways with tag team titles being on the way now more than ever Tamina actually serves more of a purpose. It’s obvious her and Nia will be a long term team going forward to beef up the division. Hell they will even stand a chance at winning them due to Tamina needing an accolade for longevity alone.

I think it’s likely she will this year but she’ll probably have a tag title run with Nia Jax first.

    • Tamother on Chasing Glory
      By Ninja Balenciaga
Sorry, I didn't do a recap for the Molly Holly episode last week. There was A LOT of faith/god talk. I'm a heathen, so I didn't feel like bursting into flames while typing up the highlights. Anyway, she's got Tamina on this week. I'm about halfway through now.
UPDATING with notes on the second half of the interview.
Tamina is a fan of Chasing Glory. Was marking out that Lilian asked her to be on. She didn't get picked up during her first tryout. Was told that she needed to lose weight. Didn't fit what they were looking for in Divas at that time, so she went back to Afa's school to train more. Gets emotional talking about the first time her father taught her how to do the Superfly Splash. Wrestled Mickie James during her next tryout. Jamie Noble produced the tryout match. They asked her to miss the splash and she didn't know how to sell missing it. Johnny Ace signed her later that night. Moved around a lot growing up. Her parents divorced. When she was with her Dad, education wasn't a priority and she would go on the road sometimes. Her Dad was illiterate, couldn't read or write. Education was important to her Mom and that side of the family.  Tamina said Dwayne told her that no matter what always be good to people and be humble, which was similar advice that she also got from her Dad. Lilian says Dwayne is the reason why she started singing the national anthems. He knew that she sang. WWE would always play an instrumental of the anthem before live events. He asked her if she could sing it one day at a live event and she ended up singing it all of the live events that weekend. It got back to Vince and then she's been singing it ever since. Lilian mentions that she always sees Tamina stand up for others, but hasn't seen her stand up for herself. Doesn't think that Tamina has really asked or gone after opportunities. Tamina feels like it's a cultural thing and from how she was brought up as the middle child in her family. Being very respectful, especially to elders & people in power. Feels like she needs to be respectful to Vince, Hunter & Steph, trusts them and will do what they need her to do even though sometimes in the back of her mind she knows that she might be a better wrestler or that she's getting buried. Would like to put herself over a little bit more, but puts her pride aside. Oooh Lilian is challenging her, y'all. Lil brings up Dwayne again, says he was always humble but still went after what he wanted. Thinks Tamina is too humble. Let me get my popcorn ready. Brings up that Tamina has been there for nearly 10 years and only just got her first shirt at Evolution. Tamina counters that Team BAD had a shirt, but felt grateful & blessed to have her own shirt. Would question herself when she saw new girls get called up and get shirts & big pushes right away. Got shredded & into the best shape of her life, felt confident about her in-ring work, even had The Rock's ex-wife Dany Garcia being her mentor at the time and still never got a run as champion. Doubted herself. Her Dad told her to keep going, grinding & shining, eventually it will come, just still be good to people. Lilian is getting messy. Asks Tamina how it felt when Nia came in and became champion after not very long and didn't have to shred all that weight. Tamina was in gorilla when Nia got the title at Mania. She was so happy for her, but also thought what could I have done to get the championship or what more could I have done? Recognizes that she is the first Polynesian woman on the WWE roster, wanted to be the first one to get the title. But gives props to Nia for doing it. Doesn't know if it will ever happen for her, but she's going to keep pushing. Looks back on when she was starting out in WWE and thinks that she should have protected herself better. Loves the new girls that have come up and that she gets to keep up with them. Still good friends with her ex-husband. Moved to Hawaii and went back to college as a single Mom with two kids after the split. Her kids are her life. She gets emotional talking about them. Says they are her strength to still be doing what she does. Prior to getting married and having kids, she was going to pursue wrestling, but that didn't work out at the time. After the divorce, her aunt said that she really should try it. Dany Garcia gave her the encouragement and belief to try to get into wrestling. Lilian mentions that at times she's had to announce her as Tamina Snuka and other times as just Tamina. She uses that as a way to ask Tamina about the murder allegations about Tamina's father. Tamina says she really doesn't know much about it. She was really young when it happened and everything resurfaced due to a book that was written. She did have a conversation with her Dad about it but feels it's best to stay away from all that and tried to just be supportive of her Dad. When she was in high school, a guy was harassing her sister while they were partying in the club. So she ran out and beat his ass. When the police were trying to pull her off the guy, she kicked an officer in the balls. She got arrested and had to spend the night in jail. The women's cells were full, so they put her with the men. She was only 18.  Gets emotional talking about her father being gone. Talks about missing him and how much he supported her. Talks about all of these first-ever women's moments and that he isn't here to see them, but knows he's always with her spiritually. Lilian says the fans are finally starting to get into Tamina. Tamina says she wants to have a program against Nia. And wants to get more time on the microphone and to cut a promo on the fans. Lil says Tamina needs to get fired up more and says her being overly humble is unfair to the WWE universe. Tamina refers to herself as the "Sultress of Savagery" and that she's ready for that to come out.
