Harry Potter is a series of fantasy novels written by British author J. K. Rowling. The novels chronicle the lives of a young wizard, Harry Potter, and his friends Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, all of whom are students at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

The main story arc concerns Harry's struggle against Lord Voldemort, a dark wizard who intends to become immortal, overthrow the wizard governing body known as the Ministry of Magic, and subjugate all wizards and Muggles (non-magical people).

Who are your favorite characters or story arc? Favorite book or movie? What house do you think you belong to? Let's discuss!

Since the series is many decades old please talk about spoilers at your discretion, feel fee to use the spoiler tag or not.

So, the books came out in the 90s but I specifically remember being a freshman in HS in the early 2000s and right before the first movie came out there was a resurgence of the books, leading to me owning the first one. Unfortunately back then, I wasn't really into it despite seeing a few of the movies when they came out.

A decade or so would pass before I would try to get into the series again via audiobook. I just finished The Order of the Phoenix! I have to say, I really enjoy the novels moreso than the films, which I'm rewatching as well. The differences are stark. I'm really enjoying how there's an overall thread of continuity between the adults in the books and our heroes, which is something I don't really get with the films?

I feel like the characters are so much more rich and I really love Ron and Hermoine now. Hermoine, socialist queen, trying to free an enslaved race and get them unionized and have benefits, wow!

Book Snape is awful and don't even try to change my mind. Since the series is decades old now I do know some spoilers out of context and...wtf. They really soften up his character because of Alan Rickman huh. yeesh.

My favorite book is the Prisoner of Azkaban and I'm definitely a Hufflepuff. Also, Professor Mcgonagall is THAT bitch.

I hope the fantastic beasts films get better because I love the original franchise.

I’ve seen every Harry Potter movie a million times and love the series. Is the Fantastic Beast series worth watching? I’m still on the fence about it cause I don’t want it to ruin my love for the series.

I personally didn't care for the first movie. I haven't seen the second one for that reason. I know other people really enjoyed them though.

Did anyone ever do that Pottermore site? I signed up solely to find out my house and patronus. I'm a Ravenclaw, which I totally agree with. But my patronus.... was a little miffed by. An effing Buzzard. What. Even.

I haven't seen it yet but am probably going to listen to the book on audio.

The trailers looked good, but not enough for me to give it a chance just yet.

Huge Harry Potter fan here! Prisoner of Azkaban is my favourite book & movie. I’ve also been on pottermore and my house is Gryffindor and my patronus is an ardvark. As for Fantastic Beats the first one wasn’t good but the second one was awesome!

An Ardvark!?!?!? WTF! Did they just go through and pick out the creepiest critters?? Did anyone ever get anything cute like a horse or weasel?

Half Blood Prince is my favorite book. Order of the Phoenix is my least favorite. Harry made me so mad in that book.

Since I just finished Order of the Phoenix I can speak to it, ughhhh. It's so frustrating how all the political drama between Dumbledore and the Ministry dominates. Professor Umbridge was the freakin worst. I can totally understand why Harry was so angry throughout tho, everyone is suddenly gaslighting him about Voldemort when the gag is, Harry is the only one who can defeat him soooooooo, LMAOOOO. i was dying when listening to it on my commute.

The only normal one I know to date is that my older sister got a cat but everyone else I know got some weird critter as their patronus. My least favourite book and movie is Goblet of Fire just didn’t really like that one all that much.
