Alexa And Natalya Flying to Saudi Arabia

There's now heavy speculation on WWE doing a women's division match at WWE Super ShowDown in Saudi Arabia on Friday. This would be the first time female Superstars perform in the Kingdom, if it happens.

We noted earlier, via PWInsider, that Natalya is making the trip to Saudi Arabia for Friday's big event in Jeddah. Fightful has since revealed that Alexa Bliss is also making the trip. There's no official word yet on why they are making the trip to the Kingdom, or if they will appear. Renee Young is also making the trip over, but she will likely be calling the show as she did at Crown Jewel last year.

Furthermore, @Wrestlevotes reported today that WWE discussed doing a women's match at Super ShowDown several months ago. The idea then was to do Nia Jax vs. Natalya, but Jax is currently out of action with an injury. It looks like they might do Bliss vs. Natalya now, which would be huge for WWE due to local laws and customs that have prevented women from wrestling there.

I don’t know the details of the laws and such there... if it does happen, does this put the girls at risk of being arrested or something along those lines? Like I assume they will be totally covered but say something rips and an elbow pops out... are they gonna throw them in jail? Like how risky is this....

Natalya deserved to be one of the women breaking that barrier to begin with tbh.

I doubt they’re wrestling unannounced tbh. Firstly, WWE would not miss the opportunity to scream “FIRST EVER!” especially regarding a social issue that is completely against the core of their executives and makes them look better than they are. Secondly—and I am so uninformed on the social politics of Saudi Arabia so I don’t know enough to give a real considered opinion—I feel like there would be a problem to have an unannounced match because some people would probably not want to be there/see it/etc. and it would leave a bad taste in their mouths about this already tricky “business relationship.” Them wanting Nia v. Nattie does problematically seem like them trying to use their women that are not conventionally attractive which irks me a LOT, but I also don’t see much coming from this other than them being there.

Also, let’s please stay objective and nonjudgmental about this unless you are an expert or want WPs! No reason we can’t have this discussion without being reductive or problematic! Wouldn’t say this if I didn’t already see it happening.

As long as no one’s safety is compromised then I’m for this. Change has to start somewhere and it would be major for WWE to pull this off.

I agree with @Jeigz In that it’s probably not a match because WWE would’ve screamed “first ever” but if it is then cool and good for those girls ✌🏽

There’s a theory in the AB wrestle forum thread that it’s for an announcement of a future match. IDK it’s just interesting that these two are the only female wrestlers going on this trip, Alexa was just asked about wrestling in Saudi Arabia so it’s definitely an interesting development.

I feel so sketchy about this. On the one hand, they shouldn't be doing business with Saudi Arabia in the first place. Their track record alone on human rights abuses is abysmal and women are treated like second class citizens. Not to mention all the other backwards, cultural bullshit that takes place there.

But on the other hand, if they're really doing this for the women, I hope they are kept safe and this is celebrated or at least recognized as a first either in that country or when they get back here.

But, I don't think for a second they'd permit a women's match there and it's really naive that WWE thinks they can somehow change the culture.

It was never going to happen, but I applaud Natalya and Alexa willing to step up for the possible opportunity. Perched for Nattie’s total divas head discussing this situation later this year.

Of course not. Just giving more info. Wonder why they picked Nattie and Alexa to go there though.

    • Natalya Says Jason Momoa Wants Her to Co-Star in The Wrestler 2
      By Gavin
      – Natalya revealed in a new Total Divas bonus clip that Jason Momoa would like her to co-star with him in The Wrestler 2. In the clip, which you can see below, Natalya reveals to the cast that she and Bret Hart may appear in the film.
“Yesterday Bret got a call from this guy about being in a new movie that they’re making called The Wrestler 2. And I didn’t know until I Googled him, but that [he’s] actor Jason Momoa,” she said. “Bret said to me, he’s like, ‘I gave Jason your number. So this morning, I talked to Jason. He wants me to star in the movie with him. He wants me to be his ex-lover.”
She continued, “Once I found out who Jason Momoa is, I’m like, ‘This is pretty cool.’ He is a really big star. He’s an actor who has been on Game of Thrones, he was in that movie Aquaman. So, the fact that he is now interested in having me in the movie is huge. And he says that in the movie I need to have a match. And he’s like, ‘Is there anybody you think would be great to wrestle with?'”
It’s worth noting that this news hasn’t been reported anywhere, and the Total Divas episode taped a while ago. There’s no word on the status of the film, which would presumably be a sequel to the 2008 drama that garnered Micky Rourke an Oscar nomination for his role as independent wrestler Randy “The Ram” Robinson.
