      Chapter One: Breathe

Chapter One: Breathe January 1 - February 28, 2000. "The beginning is the most important part of the work." - Plato. Crisp winter months smother Olympia, the frigid evening tide of the Pacific washing onto the shores and bringing with it an unsettled air. Combing through the filthy, sin-filled streets was a surreal, eerie force, sinking into concrete and brick, wood and leaf, flesh and bone. It almost softens the tangible, seemingly turning the roads into clouds, if for a moment. The city of gods had begun to drift into a lucid-like dream.

Fairy tales and fables of fallen idols fill the bedtime stories of many a child, but the growing sensation that these chronicles hold truth burns like hearth through the cold season. Were they to be lessons from history, rather than a figment of fantasy? Are there truly Gods amongst men? What if God was one of us? As the bell had toll, heralding a new year—a new beginning—the prophecy would carry out into the reincarnated as the mortals wallow, unable to foresee the truth drifting nearer. Day by day, they would grow stronger, showing odd signs of having greater purpose on this earth; in this life. But none of this could be without a beginning.

The story of New Gods is being retold and our gods reborn... again. In an effort to make things more accessible and inclusive—all while maintaining the element of nostalgia that makes our game so unique and special—I've decided to change the time at which our game takes place. Once set in 1997, we're now rebooting and moving forward to the new millennium/Y2K, encompassing the transitional and defining era in our modern culture that was the late 90s/early 00s. Millennials, rejoice!

Due to this change in setting, it's suggested that all our active members adjust their shippers accordingly. This means the age of your character may have to change based on our established rules (your character can only be up to 5 years older or 5 years younger than the age of your face claim now in the year 2000) or a change of face claim might be in order. Your face claim must be 18 years of age in the year 2000; I am also now allowing for musical acts to be used as face claims if they have an acting credit before the year 2003, but if they are claimed, the real artist must not be referenced within the game just to avoid confusion and to maintain consistency in our alternate universe. I will be strongly enforcing that all face claims must have been active/relevant between the years of 1998 and 2003, though I'll be open to some other suggestions and treating it on a case by case basis. Please note that an update is not required if your character still fits within our rules. Additionally, please modify any details that might be linked to the original setting such as musical interests, beliefs, their backstory, etc. If you are making a change to your face claim, please notify me as soon as possible.

Our plot developments for the chapter remain the same, and threads/shipper replies already posted only need be edited if any changes to your character or claim are made (as well as if any reference to the previously established setting were made). Repeating said plot developments: with the advent of a new millennium, many were warned and threatened of an apocalypse and a New World Order upon the turning of time (
reference here). The Children of Cronus, as the highest of order, shall slowly develop an awareness that there is more to their existence than that of an everyday mortal, but will not learn of anything significant and only show a very, very minor aptitude toward their supernatural gifts by chapter's end. For the rest of our fallen Gods, there is no such revelation at all, but they are fated to be naturally pulled toward their comrades as the season settles.

The time frame/dates outlined should be when your scenes (threads) take place, and within this time frame only. This unless you are delving into the past, at which point you'd post in our "time paradox". Be sure to utilize all of our sections, including posting in other members' shipper threads and getting your trackers up and running. I really hope everyone enjoys and I'll update for a new chapter after some time!
