Tony Todd to Reprise Iconic "Candyman" Role in Jordan Peele's Re-Imagining

4 posts in this topic

Principal photography kicked off a little over a month ago here in Chicago on the next Candyman, the Jordan Peele-produced sequel to the Clive Barker adaptation that’s directed by Nia DaCosta (Little Woods).

While Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Us, Aquaman) leads the cast, horror fans have been on pins and needles waiting for an announcement in regards to the title character.

I had been hearing for weeks, from several sources, that Tony Todd will be returning to the role that he first portrayed in the 1992 film of the same name. All of my sources are solid, but none of them were fully confident, which led me on a wild goose chase for confirmation. Just a few minutes ago, I had given up and decided to run the scoop on Twitter. Within minutes, two more trustworthy sources came forward telling me that what I had been hearing was, in fact, true.

While I’d still like to tread carefully and wait for MGM to officially announce the news in order to pop the champagne and celebrate, it’s looking like Tony Todd will be returning as the hook-handed Candyman next summer.

Peele (Get Out, Us) co-wrote the script, which is described as a “spiritual sequel” to the original classic. The sequel returns to the neighborhood where the legend began: the now-gentrified section of Chicago where the Cabrini-Green housing projects once stood.

Watch this spot for all official news as it arrives. We’ll all be Candyman’s victim come June 12, 2020.

So with Halloween on the horizon and the season quickly coming to a close, I thought to bring back this HB nightmare staple, but with a special twist. Before we begin the traditional Heal or Hurt rules, below is a list of 31 vacant slots. It's up to the Heartbreakers to decide which of their favorite Halloween movies we'll see battle it out for the Heal or Hurt crown. To qualify as a Halloween movie, it must fall under the horror genre, be it adult (no example needed) or children's horror (i.e. Hocus Pocus, The Witches, Beetlejuice, Gremlins, The Addams Family). Per Wikipedia, horror is broadly defined as:
So with that said, please help decide our list below (also be sure to indicate the year the movie was released for clarity). Each member is only allowed to add one movie to the list every fifteen minutes until it's filled. Once it's filled, Heal or Hurt rules shall begin.
