Warning Point System, Forum Rules/Policies

52 posts in this topic

Several online communities like to strictly establish what is allowed and what isn’t. While understandable, such practices largely limit freedom. Members of these communities generally do not fully express themselves in fear of potential banning. Here at Heartbreakers, our goal is to let discussion/debate thrive in a clean, nonpoisonous environment. Even so, some order has to be maintained, as this is not an absolute autonomous gathering. Therefore, we have chosen to implement a warning point system. In this system, there are four levels of warnings: first-level warnings are worth 1 point; second-level warnings are worth 2 points; third-level warnings are worth 3 points; fourth-level warnings result in an instant ban. Detailed below are the types of contraventions that will result in such warnings.

Quote

First-level Warnings (1 Point)
Flame Bait

  • You have created a thread/posted a reply that has the possibility to instigate an unnecessary argument. Posts warned for Flame Bait are usually celebrity-related.

Insensitive

  • Your post is offensive to a certain person or group, whether you realize it or not. Posts warned for Insensitive are always member-related.

Abrasive

  • Your post is interlaced with undertones of unnecessary asperity/rudeness.

Off Topic

  • Your post is irrelevant to the discussion at hand.

Pointless

  • Your post is of no value, or your post contains an unrelated image/GIF.

Second-level Warnings (2 Points)

Fighting

  • You are arguing with another member publicly instead of using the PM system. Your argument no longer concerns the thread in which it began.

Harassment

  • You are continuously replying to a member pointlessly, to where it has become bothersome or causes distress.

Ignorant

  • Your post includes racist, homophobic, and/or ignorant remarks.

Insult

  • Your post is meant to personally insult another member in an offensive manner within a thread. Posts warned for Insult are always member-related.

Trolling

  • Your post is deliberately meant to upset people or rile their emotions. Posts warned for Trolling are usually celebrity-related.

Spoilers

  • Your post/image/GIF reveals important plot details regarding a show or movie before it has aired or premiered. Posted spoilers of any TV show or movie must be kept under spoiler tags until a week after release for weekly episodic TV series and a month after release for movies and binge watchable TV series; neither rule applies to wrestling. Wrestling spoilers must be kept under tags until its airing.

Third-level Warnings (3 Points)

Explicit

  • You have posted an explicit image or not-safe-for-work content without warning.
You have posted overly descriptive content regarding sexual references/depictions.
Your avatar and signature contain excessively vulgar content.

Personal

  • You have impudently attacked and/or threatened another member or those close to her/him personally.

Malevolence

  • You have wished extreme harm or death on any real person (wrestlers included).

Fourth-level Warnings

Duplicate -- instant ban, expires in three months

  • We've discovered that you have a duplicate account and are carrying on a second persona.

Spam -- instant ban, never expires

  • If you post obvious spam for another website or business, you are instantly banned.

If a member accumulates 10 warning points, he/she will be banned from posting, messaging, and blogging for 31 days.

  • 1-point warnings expire in 10 days.*
  • 2-point warnings expire in 20 days.
  • 3-point warnings expire in 30 days.

    * Spoiler warnings expire in 5 days

Staff members WILL actively seek out violations! While we encourage members to interpret our guidelines and actively report other members who breach the community’s policies, staff members will warn posts regardless of reports. We run under a democracy, not a dictatorship; therefore, each member should still decide what is acceptable and what violates our policies. Moreover, our community is self- and peer-moderated. Keep in mind that a council of staff members is utilized simply to foil impartiality and maintain a just environment.

If your forum activity has a staff member concerned (e.g., partially breaching one of the forum rules), he/she may opt to send you a reminder. Reminders are sent at the discretion of staff members. This means staff members may choose to warn you instead of sending you a reminder or vice versa. You will not receive any warning points for a reminder.

If you have questions, comments, and/or concerns, please feel free to post below.

Ask questions if you have any. Get any ambiguities cleared. Please don't complain if you get hit with a warning.

Off Topic

Your post is irrelevant to the discussion at hand, or your thread is placed in the wrong forum.

Pointless

Your post is of no value, or your post contains an unrelated image/GIF.

I think the Bolded are a little harsh, especially the Wrong Forum one, everyone makes mistakes.

And in the unrelated image/gif sometimes your having a conversation with a member and you post it for that reason , it may be unrelated to the thread but related to the Conversation

Mistakes do happen, and the first couple offenses will probably be ignored. We specifically mean multiple offenses. You will only be warned for posting an unrelated image/GIF as a post directed towards the content in the OP. A conversation with another member within a thread, so long as it doesn't break any of the other rules, will be overlooked.

UPDATE | THE FOLLOWING NO LONGER APPIES:

If a member accumulates a sum of 25 warning points, he/she will find that all his/her posts require moderator approval before they appear to the forum community.

Also, from now on, only 1 warning point will expire every 24 hours. Remember this does not include the day the warning was issued.

SECOND UPDATE | THE FOLLOWING HAS BEEN ALTERED:

OLD: A strange, but vital detail: Staff members will not actively seek out violations! Ultimately, it is up to the members to interpret these guidelines and actively report members who breach the community’s policies. Employing this system puts power in the hands of the members. We run under a democracy, not a dictatorship. Each member must decide what is acceptable and what violates our policies. Moreover, our community is self and peer moderated. A council of staff members is utilized simply to foil impartiality and maintain a just environment.

Update: Bans will now be issued when you reach 25 points. Since we're a smaller community, 50 points seemed too far out of reach.

Wait, if someone with a second persona gets banned for 3 months, will both accounts get active after those 3 months? wouldn't that be a bit pointless, or will the person have to choose one of their accounts.

The original account would be unbanned after three months; the duplicate account would be banned permanently.

An update to the rules:

- GIFs used in posts must not be larger than 400 x 260 as they are distracting, unappealing and may slow down pages. Also on the topic of GIFs, any GIFs posted as a reply to a serious discussion or a detailed post (meaning you ONLY post a GIF and no dialogue) will be warned for pointless. Essentially if your GIF reply adds nothing to the discussion or takes away from the discussion, you will be warned for pointless.

- The explicit rules have also been altered. Bikini shoots and the like are now allowed. If the bikini image is sexually suggestive, we encourage you to add a warning label or some sort of disclaimer in your post before the actual photo. Nudity, however, is not allowed in any form and you will get an explicit warning if you embed the image instead of linking it with a NSFW tag. Extreme images of pornography and such will be warned regardless of how you post it. Don't link it at all.

Since it's to fancy up your OP, I think we can overlook it.
