Charlotte vs. Natalya Submission Match Announced for Extreme Rules

      Recommended Posts

WWE Women’s Champion Charlotte has twice needed help to make it past Natalya: once from Ric Flair on Raw, and once from Flair’s referee doppelganger Charles Robinson at WWE Payback, who called for the bell before Charlotte could tap and initiated

      the “Chicago Screwjob” of 2016

. At Extreme Rules, the champion have either of those luxuries, and to beat Natalya, she’ll have to flat-out tap her out, because the rule for their rubber match is a straight-up, no-frills Submission Match, with Flair barred from involvement. The first Superstar to make the other cry uncle will be crowned the winner.

As challenges come, that’s a seemingly insurmountable one for Charlotte. Not because she can’t win the match fair and square — she pinned Natalya outright in their first confrontation over the NXT Women’s Championship in 2014 — but because since coming into her own as a champion, the young prodigy has leaned increasingly on her father’s “coaching” (i.e., interference) to retain her title.

As WWE Women's Champion Charlotte and her father, Ric Flair, address the controversy at WWE Payback, Natalya gives a response of her own.

All of this is a welcome development for Natalya, but lost in the narrative of Charlotte’s support system (or lack thereof) is the question of whether The Queen of Harts can get it done. For all her claims that she can beat any woman in the world in a straight-up contest, Natalya has yet to manage it against Charlotte when the chips are down. Her and uncle Bret Hart pretzeling the Flairs into twin Sharpshooters at WWE Payback was fun, but it didn’t fill up her trophy case, and it’s not hard to imagine Natalya being shuffled to the back of the line should she fall short on May 22.

With WWE Hall of Famers Bret "The Hitman" Hart and Ric Flair at ringside, Natalya and Charlotte battle for the WWE Women's Championship: Courtesy of the award-winning WWE Network.

Luckily, it’s doubtful she’d have it any other way. As the daughter of WWE royalty, Natalya is always up for a fight. Give her a ring to compete in and an opponent to tap out and she’s got a shot. As for Charlotte? Well, she is the daughter of WWE royalty, too, but she’s been content to play daddy’s little girl over the last few months as she hides behind her father’s interference. At Extreme Rules, she’ll have to put up — and grow up — or give up.

See the battle of the Figure-Eight Leglock vs. the Sharpshooter at WWE Extreme Rules, airing Sunday, May 22, at 8 ET/5 PT on the award-winning WWE Network.

What is the point when their matches end in submission anyways?

Oop Nattie better bring back the Pinup Strong. That bitch better cry and call for her daddy while she taps at the same time.

Elite hates women because none of them fuck with him. Leave him be.

I wish it were an I Quit so weapons are brought in given the PPV theme, but we know HHH hates the girls in extreme type matches lol #WomensWrestling

But yet he encourages them to push the envelope putting their body at extreme risks.

Which was why I had hope, but remembered that WWE writer clocking that HHH was dead set against Mickie vs Trish in a stipulation match because "no one wants to see girls hitting each other with weapons". :skull:

This really isn't a stipulation for them but ok. Nattie winning, I guess. This will be a cute accolade for ha

I hope she does. cause it's gonna be a KII KII KII if Charlotte clocks this bitch out of the game for the 5th time.

A win for the model era Divas also, give it to ha for a month. We need some hot potato reigns before a bad bitch holds it for 8 months.

At least there's no weapons involved. Last thing we want to see is the divas killing each other with weapons.

Play it safe, a submission match.. A match that makes sense since both have submission finishers and nobody gets seriously hurt, hopefully.

          – Natalya revealed in a new Total Divas bonus clip that Jason Momoa would like her to co-star with him in The Wrestler 2. In the clip, which you can see below, Natalya reveals to the cast that she and Bret Hart may appear in the film.
“Yesterday Bret got a call from this guy about being in a new movie that they’re making called The Wrestler 2. And I didn’t know until I Googled him, but that [he’s] actor Jason Momoa,” she said. “Bret said to me, he’s like, ‘I gave Jason your number. So this morning, I talked to Jason. He wants me to star in the movie with him. He wants me to be his ex-lover.”
She continued, “Once I found out who Jason Momoa is, I’m like, ‘This is pretty cool.’ He is a really big star. He’s an actor who has been on Game of Thrones, he was in that movie Aquaman. So, the fact that he is now interested in having me in the movie is huge. And he says that in the movie I need to have a match. And he’s like, ‘Is there anybody you think would be great to wrestle with?'”
It’s worth noting that this news hasn’t been reported anywhere, and the Total Divas episode taped a while ago. There’s no word on the status of the film, which would presumably be a sequel to the 2008 drama that garnered Micky Rourke an Oscar nomination for his role as independent wrestler Randy “The Ram” Robinson.
